Comments: I was reading this poem, cut out from an old newspaper article when my husband called me. I was out of town. He told me that we had lost another firefighter. Some might not understand that as firefighter family, we all feel the sadness, the loss, and the grief.
We understand. I did not know Jay personally, but knew him from visiting the fire stations and different firefighter functions. It hit me very hard to hear of his transition.
Here is the poem I was reading when I received the phone call.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumns rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush;
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Jay will be with us all forever more. We may not see him, but please, all friends and family, know that he is there.

God Bless all firefighters in every city across this nation.

Ju

Comments: Jay, Have a safe trip. Watch over our other firefighters please. We will know that when there is a close call, and a firefighter makes it out safely it will have been you who was there with them.
Maybe you were taken so soon because there was a need to help others that will be coming your way from the New York tragedy. Many firefighters you will be with no doubt. And we rest assured that you, and they, will do all you can to take care and make safe as you have done in this life.
Say hello to Mayo and Smith for us. We miss them too.
If you get a chance, tell that black number 3 car hello. I'm sure you are riding with him right now. What a ride it must be.
As although you have left this life, you have gone on to another, safer place.
That makes it no easier to say goodbye. It makes it no easier to not see your face again. But with our faith and hope we can look forward to being with you in a reunion that will come one day. Till then check in once in a while. We'll be waiting.
See you on the other side.

Jen

Comments: To Jay's Family:

I knew Jay when he worked at the Kingwood Fire Dept. on his off days. I was a volunteer there, and I would go by and visit the "daytime" guys. Jay had a wealth of knowledge, and would gladly share it with anyone who asked and would listen. I feel it a distinct honor to have been blessed with some of his knowledge and to have made a call or two with him. May God give you the strength to carry on and continue on in Jay's memory. God Bless You - Jay's Family.

Jay will always be in my heart, and missed every day and every minute I walk on this earth. He is a Fireman, and one day, I hope to be half the Fireman he is.
