Comments: I am extremely sorry to hear Houston lost another firefighter. I must say that after witnessing a number of fire departments across the nation, Houston must be one of the most aggressive, and impressive fire departments I have ever seen. It is very unfortunate that one of the downfalls of being aggressive (doing your job) is the potential of taking loss. These unfortunate incidents prove the responsibility people take when they decide to wear the "Red Badge of Courage". Just as the crew on FDNY Rescue 1 said, "You are only a hero once in your career, and that is the day you decide to become a fireman." I am currently attempting to become a Houston Firefighter myself, and look forward to possibly working with you all. And again, I, as well as the New Orleans EMS and FD, are extremely sorry for your loss.

Comments: I just want to say that it was a great pleasure to have known and worked with Captain Jay Jahnke. He was the kind of guy that it did not matter if you were a paid or volunteer fire fighter, he treated you as an equal.

He is going to be greatly missed by myself, my family and all those who ever knew him.

My prayers go out to Dawn, Jane and Hunter, as well as with the rest of the family.
"Jay, I'm going to miss you brother, but you will never be forgotten."
