I recently retired from the Houston Fire
Department after 31 years of service. I am a self proclaimed personnel
historian of the Houston Fire Department. I concentrate on the history of
Houston fire fighters from 1895 (when Houston became a paid department) to the
present.
In 1987 became involved with the line of duty
history of the department and did an 8 month long research project to obtain
information on all of our line of duty fire fighters. After eight
months of painstakingly looking through miles of microfilm, tons of books and
lots of cemetery records, the project was finally completed. I was able to find
a couple of fire fighters that have been left of Houston's official list and was
able to correct many details that through the years have been left out.
The Houston Fire Department now has an accurate record of all of its firefighters who have died in the line of duty from the fire department's inception in 1895. This list can guarantee that the firefighters who risk their lives every day of their career will never forget these men and women.
There are some
details that have not been obtained. I are still looking for relatives and
pictures of some of these fire fighters. If you have information on any of these fire
fighters or comments on this site, please email me.
